Childcare is available to all those attending any events and / or all activities at the Salem Community Center. Children ages 1 to 6 are welcome!

CAC HOURS OF OPERATION

Hours of Operation:  Please note that the hours of operation vary. Regular hours are available Fall, Winter and Spring with adjusted hours in the Summer.  Hours are posted at the CAC and on the website, or check with any Front Desk staff member.

CAC Rates:

  • FREE to children on an SCC Annual Membership
  • $3.50 per child / per hour or $30 for a 10-Visit Punch Card.

CAC Fees: A discounted rate applies to the first 2 hours. After second hour, there will be an additional $5 charge per child.  Payment is made at the SCC Front Desk in the lobby. Punch passes may not be used for overage payment. In case of an emergency, parents / guardians need to be using and remain in the facility at all times. Supervising adults are not permitted to be inside the Children’s Activity Center.

Sign In:  Parents are required to sign children in and out at each visit. Children will only be released to the parent / legal guardian listed on the sign-in sheet.  A driver’s license or SCC membership card must be presented at the window. The photo I.D. will be kept by staff until the child is picked up.

Staff Requirements: The Salem Community Center has several staff members onsite who are certified in First Aid, CPR and use of the automated external defibrillator (AED).  Should medical attention be needed, please inform any staff member.

Age Requirements:  Children ages 12 months to 6 years.

Time Limit: Each child is allowed up to four hours per visit when the posted hours of operation permit.

Emergencies: In case of an emergency evacuation such as a fire, parents should NOT go to the Child Care room. Please use the nearest exit, and meet your child at the center island in the parking lot just outside of the front entrance. For tornado emergencies, children will be located in the women’s locker room.

Food / Drinks: Food is not allowed in the Child Care room. Drink is permitted, if it is in a spill-proof cup with the child’s name on it.

Capacity: The maximum number of children allowed in the CAC is 21. SCC provides one supervisor for every 10 children, 3 to 6 years of age.  For children under 3 years of age, we will strive to provide one supervisor for every 7 children.

Special Needs: Please inform the staff of any special medical conditions, handicaps, disabilities or allergies your child has, so that we may provide your child with the very best care possible.

Diapers / Clothing: We ask that disposable diapers be used for sanitary and health reasons. You must provide your own diapers and diaper wipes. Children wearing diapers must have clothing over them.  Staff is not permitted to change diapers.  Parents will be paged to attend their child’s soiled diapers.

Personal Items:  Please note that items brought from home such as movies, stuffed animals, dolls, and any personal toys are discouraged.  CAC workers have the right to seek administrative approval for any item that accompanies a child while visiting the CAC.   SCC is not responsible for any personal items that are lost, stolen or damaged.

Shoes: Shoes are required for children while using the Child Care room.

Label Belongings:  Please be advised to label all personal belongings.

Paging Parents:  The staff will attempt to comfort or discipline children for a maximum of twenty minutes. If children require special attention during their stay at the CAC, parents will be paged to retrieve their child. The following may be reasons for paging:

  • Trouble interacting with other children
  • Not following instructions from staff
  • Need of diaper change

Note: A picture ID must be left with the attendant when dropping off your child.

You must remain in the Salem Community Center during your child's stay.
